As per MoES, Govt. of India, the global average temperature has risen by around 1 Degree Celsius since pre-industrial times. This magnitude and rate of warming cannot be explained by natural variations alone and must necessarily take into account changes due to human activities. Emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs), aerosols, and changes in land use and land cover (LULC) during the industrial period have substantially altered the atmospheric composition, and consequently the planetary energy balance, and are thus primarily responsible for the present-day climate change. Warming since the 1950s has already contributed to a significant increase in weather and climate extremes globally (e.g., heat waves, droughts, heavy precipitation, and severe cyclones), changes in precipitation and wind patterns (including shifts in the global monsoon systems), warming and acidification of the global oceans, melting of sea ice and glaciers, rising sea levels, and changes in marine and terrestrial ecosystems.

MAHAPREIT:  Environment and Climate Change

Under the Environment vertical, CMEC was set up as a self-sustainable growth center under MAHAPREIT. Will take up enrolment of eligible BC start-ups/entrepreneurs/eligible job aspirants. Will identify revenue generation projects like climate change projects, net zero Co2 emission, Air and Water Quality Monitoring, Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), Solid Waste Management, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Noise Pollution Control, Hazardous Waste Management, mangrove restoration projects, River Cleaning projects, Capacity Building and Awareness, Research, and Development with compliance of MOEF / CPCB/MPCB. Will impanel, engage, and collaborate with agencies/organizations/companies in the management of Environment and Climate Change through EOI / Partnerships / MOU to support the activities under CMEC on revenue sharing models. Will identify and shortlist agencies for environment audit, and other studies through EOI in consultation with MPCB and other statutory bodies. Will be supported by MSKC (MAHAPREIT Start-up Knowledge Center) and system improvement works will be allocated to BC start-ups/ entrepreneurs. Will take up EIA works of Financial and Banking Institutions and PMCs like PwC, KPMG, SBI Caps, and Deloitte. Expert Nominees' Committee on Climate Obligations and Regenerative Environment (ENCORE) was constituted to plan and advise CMEC on its activities. Successfully completed projects like Mangrove restoration and performance evaluation audit of STPs in the Nashik city Area.
